Who is she?

Alison King is an artist and design educator living in Phoenix, Arizona.

She's crazy for cacti and succulents
obsessive about early education antiques
mad about modern desert architecture
and dazzled daily by her students

...which explains all the web sites hosted under pixelpixie.net. Its a personal treasure chest of sorts.

Often known online as the PixelPixie, Alison believes that digital media can bring out the same intensity of magic that traditional media can.

But if you must know the mundane truth, Alison Associate Professor of graphic design at the Art Institute of Phoenix and is responsible for guiding the next generation of design talent into the workforce.

Alison has been a digital artist for as long as she can remember using computers -- even if it did mean coding in vectors by hand using Basic.

She spent ten years in New York City to attend Parsons School of Design and Eugene Lang College in Manhattan. She studied Printmaking and World Art History in their unique dual degree program.

In 1999 she graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with a Masters degree in Art and Art Education.

Somewhere inbetween she spent a summer at Arcosanti, which has inflenced her just as much as the University training. The pixelated drawings on this page were taken from that period.

Alison's research efforts and informal observations in the 1990s focused on the ways young artists use digital sketchbooks and web pages for self-expression. When the internet was desperately in need of such information, this was a popular resource in its time. Today, everyone expects their teenagers to be hypertextual.

Alison's research efforts in the 2000s have focused on documenting midcentury modern architectural design in Phoenix, Arizona and motivating poeple to act on their creative impulses in modifying these homes.

If you'd like to know more, then you'll surely enjoy the Long Story, which is fancy talk for a resume.

Lastly, Alison believes strongly in the rights of creative artists. Please inquire before borrowing artwork, stories or curriculum from this website or othersand its affiliates.
