I'd Rather Be...

Objective: Students will learn that a digital photograph can be manipulated to make it appear as if they are where they'd much rather be.
Hardware: 3 Digital cameras set up at three computer stations
Software: Digital camera software, Hyperstudio or Photoshop
Homework check: Review homework: meaning of "manipulation" and "environment"
Motivation:
- Where would you much rather be right now?
(the World Series, at the store, in the park, on the basketball court)
Dialogue:
- What if you could take your digital picture and make it look like you really were where you'd rather be?
- How could we go about doing that?
- What kinds of things would you put in the background environment to make it really look like you were there?
- How would you change your clothing, or hairstyle, or accessories to convince us that you are really in that environment?
- Which tools are efficient for erasing the background?
- How is the paintbrush different from the eraser?
- What is the difference between erasing and painting? What is masking?
Demonstrate difference between eraser tool and the white paintbrush. Demonstrate brush rezising options to assist in accuracy. Demonstrate the use of the magnifying glass tool.
- Does the background always have to be white? Why not?
- What would be the advantage of using a different color than white?
Transitions:
- What is the dominant color in your environment?
- Would that be a suitable color to erase with?
